To establish a local network of support and an active volunteer movement to promote self worth and sense of community belonging among residents.
Our Centre
THK Seniors Activity Centre @ Telok Blangah Crescent was established by Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society and commenced service since December 1994. The Centre was officially opened by Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Minister for Community Development on 14 July 1996. It was then expanded to include another premise at Block 3 to serve a bigger area of residents, regardless of their race and religion.
Our Objectives
- To promote volunteerism in the community, so that the elderly residents and other residents will remain active and engaged.
- To promote inter-generational interaction among residents in the neighbourhood.
- To assist the vulnerable residents in obtaining appropriate services to meet their needs.
- To mobilise community resources in building a local support network for the needy residents.
Programmes and Services
- THK Seniors Activity Centre @ Telok Blangah Crescent values, respects and warmly welcomes all elderly living in our community. Motivate our seniors to actively participate in our indoor and outdoor activities.
- To promote and facilitate active ageing and community-bonding with mutual care and respect.
- To promote and facilitate ageing in place (e.g. referrals for Home Help Service, Counselling Services, Befriending Services, TCM Service, Blood Pressure Taking and Group Exercise).
- To actively engage and connect our seniors to live in our vibrant and changing community and learn to appreciate and know modern Singapore.
- To show and highlight to our elderly the benefits and advantages of living in harmony with neighbours, friends and family.
- Serves as the bridge of communication to link and connect our elderly with their family members.
- Act as umbrella of protection for our elderly against physical and emotional abuse by others.
- Educate our elderly on Crime Prevention, Community Living in Harmony, Health Talks and Falls Risks & Prevention. Emergency Contact Number given to elderly to call us when they need help.
- To recruit elderly to become volunteers and facilitate the seniors to form Mutual Help Groups for the well-being of our elderly especially those who are bedridden, weak and vulnerable and those who are staying alone.
- Our Centre also manned the Alert Alarm System to monitor the safety of our elderly with their best interests in hearts.
