Cardboard Collage Print by Ong Yong Sheng

This artwork features two parts: a collage of cardboard pieces and a print of the collage. Often intrigued by the tactile properties of art materials, Yong Sheng has always been invested in the process of exploring the materials through touch.

This session was no exception as Yong Sheng took initiative to play with the cardboard pieces, trying to feel the different textures of cardboard surfaces and experimenting ways to manipulate the cardboard such as folding and tearing before securing them onto his paper. Yong Sheng also dove right into experimenting paints when paints were brought out during the second part of session. He rolled layers of paint over his cardboard collage before creating a print of his cardboard collage.

Curious about the materials, he continued to explore different marks that the paint roller can create by tapping, rolling them on both the cardboard collage artwork and the collage print.
