Portrait by Kim Young Hun

This artwork is done via print making technique. A picture of a person’s face that has been printed on A3 sized paper and laminated to provide a smooth surface for painting or tracing during the printmaking process. Young Hun uses a brush dipped in tempera paint to trace the contours of the face on the laminated paper. Next, he takes a blank paper and places it on top of the laminated paper to create a print.

Young Hun also decides to use less conventional colours when adding colours to the portrait print. He ultimately decides to use orange colour to paint the face and blue colour for the eyes and hair. He pays more attention to the eyes and eyebrows by painting them in detail. Finally, Young Hun paints the background with the colours he had to fill it up.

His use of vigorous, confident brush strokes and his choice of bold, intense, contrasting colours add to the portrait’s striking appearance.
