Rainbow by Hakim

Initial art therapy had started with resistance due to a new environment, his medical condition, and his developmental challenges. A therapeutic relationship was established through play and mirroring his action at the initial stage. In one of the sessions, Hakim made a spontaneous mark on a piece of paper that received kudos and excitement. He was so proud of his achievement for him to hold the drawing dearly. He then began to create more squiggle drawings in subsequent sessions and expressed joy in the process.

Rainbow was created in an online art therapy session where Hakim showed motivation to engage in artmaking again. His arcs, though winding, reveal increased control over his hand grip and movement. His application of watercolour depicts colours so striking in their richness and vibrancy that it seems to reflect his newfound self-confidence and potential.
