Strokes of Brilliance by Ong Yong Sheng

Yong Sheng loves exploring new materials through sensory and kinesthetic experiences. He often touches and feels materials during session and shows curiosity towards new materials’ especially tactile quality of materials.

The vibrancy of the paint colours drew Yong Sheng’s attention in this session, and he enjoyed exploring the properties of paints with his hands. With much focus and motivation, Yong Sheng used cardboards with different ridges to scratch out marks on the paints through bold, sweeping movements, thus making large straight strokes that split into different directions.

The use of bold strokes compliment Yong Sheng’s use of bright colours as they draw viewers’ attention to the how the paints moved across the canvas – as if a bird with brilliant-coloured feathers had traversed on the canvas and left these beautiful marks.
