Dr Katijah Dawood, Senior Divisional Director of Family Services Division joined THKMC on 17 August 2005 to set up a specialised service for children caught in divorce. The service, known as Supervised Visitation Programme, was the first of its kind in Singapore and was piloted in the Family Justice Court in 2001. THKMC bravely took on the service provision in 2002. Currently, the service is provided by three Divorce Support Specialist Centres in Singapore and one of them is THK Centre for Family Harmony @ Commonwealth.
She graduated from the National University of Singapore majoring in Social Work and Sociology. She started her career at the Ministry of Social and Family Development in 1986 as a Welfare Officer and left in 1997 as an Assistant Director. Her areas of contribution were in children and family work ranging from investigation to policy planning. Over the next five years, she was working in the Subordinate Courts focusing on family protection, maintenance, divorce and juvenile concerns as well as strengthening community partnerships, before pursuing PhD in social work at the University of Queensland, Australia. Her thesis was on the impact of interparental conflict on youths.
Currently, she serves as a member of Tribunal for the Maintenance of Parents, Social Work Accreditation and Advisory Board, Review and Discharge Committee / MSF. Her interests are in the areas of community development, family protection, divorce, low-income families and development of staff competence.
