Development Support & Learning Support (DS-LS)

Introduction

Media

The Development Support-Learning Support Programme (DS-LS) Programme supports K1 and K2 children  who require low levels of Early Intervention (EI) support. Our DS-LS programme aims to enhance the children’s learning, participation, and integration in daily classroom activities and routines by providing targeted short-term support in their preschool environments.

THK DS-LS Programme collaborates with early childhood educators to facilitate discussions on the children’s learning. We share strategies and materials to support the children through various classroom activities and routines. Beyond the classroom, the programme extends collaboration to parents and caregivers, offering practical tips and strategies for the children to reinforce new skills at home.

To date, the DS-LS team has worked with over 250 preschools in the Central and Central-South regions of Singapore.

Introduction

THK Disability Homes aim to maximise the health and well-being of all our beneficiaries, especially in the areas of decision making, inclusion, independence, and participation within society, for the highest possible quality of life.

EI professionals and Allied Health Professionals from THK DS-LS Programme will develop meaningful goals through an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) and provide targeted intervention support. We will also work closely with early childhood educators to support children’s needs, such as sharing strategies and materials to support the children through various classroom activities and routines. Beyond the classroom, the programme extends collaboration to parents and caregivers, offering practical tips and strategies for the children to reinforce new skills at home.

To date, the DS-LS team has worked with over 250 preschools in the Central and Central-South regions of Singapore.

FAQ

What are the admission criteria?

The DS-LS programme is for children who are:

  • Enrolled in preschools (K1 and K2 levels) at the point of intervention;
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents; and
  • Not concurrently enrolled in any other MSF-funded EI programmes (e.g. IC, DS-Plus).
What is the referral process?

Referral is done through your child’s preschool. Preschools that offer the DS-LS programme will assess your child’s eligibility for the programme.

If your child’s preschool does not offer the DS-LS programme, please write in and provide us with the name and address of your child’s Preschool and the class your child is in. We will then arrange for a virtual briefing with the Preschool.

I would like to enrol my child with mild developmental needs into your Development Support and Learning Support (DS-LS) programme. How do I know which package is best for my child?

Our EI professionals will assess your child’s needs upon referral. A panel of AHPs and doctors will then discuss to determine the most suitable package for your child. You may refer to the development support and learning support packages we offer as reference points.

For more information, please email to enquire.

As a Preschool staff, how do we enrol our children?

Please email or give us a call to arrange for a virtual briefing.
